What is Cruelty-Free?

As the name suggests, a cruelty-free product/lifestyle is one which excludes harm, torture or exploitation of any conscious living being, including animals. It’s a philosophy that acknowledges that all living creatures have emotions and feelings.

‘Cruelty-free’ is a guilt-free and compassionate way of life guided by a moral compass. Products that are cruelty-free include everything, from animal products that are derived from animals (like dairy, eggs, and even honey), to clothes and textiles (like fur, leather, silk, wool, etc.) and furniture, collectibles, and cosmetics – essentially any product tested on or derived from animals.

The cruelty-free industry is no different from any other, be it quality or quantity; the only blaring difference is in the choice to (1) create products with alternative faux methods & materials and (2) become educated and informed as a consumer. Making a conscious effort to manufacturer and purchase items that do not cause harm to animals will directly impact the world.

There is a growing demand from consumers worldwide to put an end to animal testing according to a poll – with 8 out of 10 people in Canada, 7 out of 10 in Korea, 2 out of 3 in Brazil, and the majority of The United States, with a whopping 72% of Americans. The community of compassionate shoppers, is only growing stronger, urging more and more businesses to join the 'humane revolution' – making it easier to access faux (vegan) alternative items.

The cruelty-free movement is growing at an exponential rate and we are so thrilled that you are taking a step towards saving the lives of animals and transforming the world.

Why Go Cruelty-Free?

When you choose to go cruelty-free, it usually starts out with a conscious choice to not support the inhumane animal industry; however, there are so many ‘collateral benefits’ that you will find it impossible to look back. We won’t blame you if you feel the desire to share the ‘light’ of your cruelty-free lifestyle with everyone, even those who react by ‘throwing shade’ (pun intended). Whether you’ve already started making compassionate choices or are looking for a push, we can inform you of hard facts and let you make the choice for yourself!

Let’s not assume all vegan diets are healthy, just like any other diet, it can consist of both junk and healthy foods. That being said, the average vegan diet has scientifically proven inherent benefits as you’re not seeking nutrition from consuming animal flesh. When you’re eating a plant based diet, you are not only reaping the benefits of foods rich in proteins, iron, calcium, vitamins and minerals, but also foregoing the unhealthy aspects of such components found in non-vegetarian alternates.

A boost in energy levels, prolonged younger looking skin, and lower chances of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure problems, and cancer are benefits of adopting a vegan diet. No matter what stage of life you are in, there are vegan nutrition options for everyone.

Production of meat is also a heavy burden on the environment. According to Climate Central, a shift away from meat could slash in half per capita greenhouse gas emissions related to eating habits worldwide and ward off additional deforestation — a major contributor to climate change, according to scientific findings.

From the excessive methane given off in the atmosphere by raring these animals for mass production, to land and water usage from expanding agricultural production, and transport and processing between ‘farm to folk’ – it's no news it’s one of the biggest perpetrators of climate change. Swearing off such inefficient food systems supports sustainability for the environment in not only the long run, but also immediately, by elevating the standard of living to people living in poverty.

Moreover, you are attracting bad karma and energies by putting products in you (consuming food), on you (such as cosmetics) or in the vicinity of your aura (your surroundings and lifestyle), that have a history of blood, torture, pain and screams.

There is more than one way to take a stand right now, and more than one benefit of becoming cruelty-free and we are here for you every step of the way!

As Anna Lappé rightly said, “Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want.”
